KASELEHLIE, AND WELCOME TO POHNPEI

Discover the natural beauty and living culture of Pohnpei. Often called the Garden Island for its lush forests and abundant rainfall, Pohnpei is the largest and tallest island in the FSM, rising to mist-covered peaks nearly 2,600 feet above sea level. The island’s name, Pohnpei, means “Upon a Stone Altar” — from Pohn meaning upon and Pei meaning stone altar — reflecting the deep cultural connection between the land and its people.

The island spans 133 square miles and stretches about 13 miles across, resting just north of the equator in the heart of the Pacific. With an average of 350 inches of rainfall each year, Pohnpei’s mountains feed lush rainforests, winding rivers, and more than 40 breathtaking waterfalls. A vibrant coral reef encircles the island, sheltering a calm inner lagoon, while dense mangrove forests line the coast — protecting the shoreline and supporting generations of island life. Here, nature is not just scenery; it is part of everyday living.

POHNPEI VISITORS SURVEY

The FSM Tourism Office, in partnership with Pohnpei Tourism Division and the South Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO), is pleased to announce the launch of the Pohnpei Visitors Survey commencing in July 2026.

The survey will be conducted from July through December 2026, gathering valuable feedback from visitors to Pohnpei. Insights collected will play a key role in shaping future tourism strategies, improving visitor services, and advancing sustainable tourism development across the Federated States of Micronesia. By taking part, visitors will help guide the future of tourism in Pohnpei, ensuring experiences continue to evolve while honoring the island’s rich cultural traditions and breathtaking natural environment.

All visitors are invited to participate. As an incentive, participants will be entered into a final prize draw scheduled for January 2027.

This initiative underscores the commitment of the FSM Tourism Office, Pohnpei tourism, and SPTO to strengthening tourism data collection and ensuring visitor experiences remain central to tourism planning.
